The first school project in Gwadar built under CPEC was completed and handed over to the Pakistan’s education department despite construction issues with the current pandemic.
Overseen by the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), the expansion project is funded by China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD). Constructed by CCCC-FHDI Engineering Company, a chinese company that had to work through shortages caused by the pandemic. However, they were successful in completing the project on time without compromising on workmanship and quality.
China-Pakistan Gwadar Faqeer Middle School is in the Faqeer Colony area and is also partly Chinese funded. It’s a school that covers 1,600 sq metres with two buildings devoted to teaching children from primary to middle level. Earlier the school was planned to hold 150 students, but now it can hold over 600 students.
The school project which aims to educate locals with the skills of the future has been welcomed by the governments, enterprises, individuals and media within CPEC.
The school is being viewed as a symbol for the unity and cooperation between China and Pakistan.
Xu Jianguo, Secretary-General of the China Foundation for Peace and Development (CFPD), commented:
“Our foundation have funded projects to help improve the level of local basic education, improve local labor quality, promote local economic and social development, and maintain social stability,”
XU commented further:
“China and Pakistan are iron-clad friends that share a good tradition of mutual assistance,”
The CFPD would also be donating books and introducing research initiatives for the school. It shall also extend invitations for local academics and students to go to China.
