History was made today with Prime Minister Imran Khan reiterating his commitment to Gwadar by emphasizing his determination to develop health, education, security and basic facilities while cementing the relationship with China via the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor agreement. While visiting the area, Imran Khan was also participating in the ground breaking ceremony to initiate the construction of Gwadar’s new international airport and inaugurate the CPEC Western Route. He also performed ground breaking ceremonies for a Balochistan Medical Complex. However, the main draw was to be the proposed new airport for Gwadar which could see thousands of tourists and business users flock to the port city once completed.
Excitement during the occasion was echoed by various news sources that were reporting this momentous day of positivity for Pakistan.
Ary News reported that the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and announcing that work was underway for the Quetta-Taftan railway track. Also in attendance was the Chief Minister of Balochistan who thanked the Imran Khan for starting work on the Western route citing the project as a ‘game changer’.

Other reports such as those from Business Recorder, state that the Quetta-Zhob Dual Carriageway will be essential for the area. Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa would also play a part in construction while Quetta could well become an advanced medical city treating cancer and heart disease with the development of a new medical hospital complex.

Samaa TV continues the strong medical stance of the government, with the report that the Prime Minister will distribute health cards for families in Gwadar. This will essentially allow families access to insurance to the value of Rs720,000. The report also covers more announcements concerning transport with cargo and passenger ferry services from Gwadar to Karachi.
Prime Minister Khan also made a surprise announcement that he will be visiting China soon which he said:
“I am going to China in April and I look forward to expand our cooperation in various sectors, including in train technology, agriculture and fisheries.”

Dawn News also caught many of the main stories that emerged today but additional details emerged about Imran Khan’s vision for Pakistan with the need for master plans:
“Major cities in Pakistan do not have master plans, and cities are expanding. Unless you have master plans in place, you cannot provide basic facilities to urban areas,” he said.
He also stressed the need for better local government with organised village councils:
“When you empower people on a village level, it will help development. We have to make sure that development is inclusive. The more we focus on Balochistan, the more it will develop and Pakistan along with it.”
